Do not panic when you got Asthma Attack

If you do find yourself having an asthmatic episode then you must try to relax.

Panicking raises both your heart rate and your breathing rate, and as you will be having trouble breathing anyway this can become a huge problem.

You need to take control of the situation and use your inhaler as soon as you can. When you do use your inhaler you must also remember to breathe deeply and hold it in for a few seconds before exhaling so the medication has a better chance of working.

Newly diagnosed asthmatics often find themselves panicking when they have their first few episodes and everything they have learnt is quickly forgotten.

If your breathing doesn’t improve after using your inhaler and you still feel tight in the chest, then phone a friend or even the doctor. Reassurance and a friendly voice can help to calm you down and relax you and this will help the medication to work.
